2012

August

GPF published a major report on the use of PMSCs by the UN and met with many delegations to discuss food and hunger issues ahead of this year's General Assembly. In connection with our work on food and the environment, we've also been reading a lot about the limits to growth and planetary carrying capacity.

May

GPF mobilizes against an investment conference that promotes landgrabbing. We organize an event to bring attention to the UN's responsibility in Haiti's cholera epidemic and a booklaunch for Medea Benjamin's "Drone Warfare."

February

GPF publishes a report on piracy off the coast of Somalia and a timeline on 40 years of ecenomic instability. The NGO Working on Food and Hunger welcomes more members and hosts a meeting on agriculture and climate change.


2011

October

Occupy Wall Street, Luncheon with "Progress for Purchase" Program Coordinator Ken Davies, interview with Jean-Marie Guéhenno, GPF continues work on the Palestinian membership bid.

September

The opening of the 2011 General Assembly, Palestine at the UN, the future of peacekeeping, the possibility of a global financial transaction tax, gross national happiness, and a major statement on food and hunger at the UN.

June - August 

Non-violent peaceforce event, private military and security companies, interview with Richard Falk, meetings for NGO Working Group on UN Access and the NGO Working Group on Food & Hunger.

May - June

Tribute to Erskine Childers, meetings on peacekeeping, EU gets new powers at the GA, meeting with Ombudsperson Kimberly Prost.

March 

Conversation with Uruguayan rights defender Felipe Michelini, continuation of work on GPF's tables and charts, new section on regional representation in Security Council section, GPF Europe's Jens Martens & Wolfgang Obenland covene a meeting of the Reflection Group on Global Development Perspectives.

February

Discussion with former Secretary General of the Club of Rome Martin Lees on the food crisis and the limits to growth, GPF continues work on overfishing and  NGO Access at the UN.

January

Luncheon with Investigative Journalist Frederick Kaufman and Karen Hansen-Kuhn of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, work on illegal fishing off the coast of Somalia and piracy, promotion of non-violent peacekeeping, creation of a new website section on Private Military and Security Companies (PMSCs).

December

Luncheon with Special Rapporteur Olivier De Schutter, meeting with Under-Secretary General Alain Le Roy, preparation for GPF's conference in Brussels on Security Council Reform, with a focus on the possibility of a European seat.
