Recent Highlights 


In December, GPF organized seven working group meetings and had discussions with various partners including CIVICUS Deputy Secretary General Katsuji Imata.
Here are some highlights:
- GPF organized a luncheon with Olivier de Schutter, Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food. The discussion looked at landgrabbing, speculation, biofuels and other urgent topics. (Dec 1)
- The NGO Working Group on the Security Council met with Alain Le Roy, Under-Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations. (Dec 7)
- The NGO Working Group on the Security Council met with the newly-elected ambassadors on the Council, at a luncheon hosted by Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting of Austria. (Dec 8)
- The NGO Working Group on Food and Hunger met with Danny Chingimbu, a smallholder farmer from Zambia, at a luncheon cosponsored by IFAD - the International Fund for Agricultural Development. (Dec 15)


GPF in the News


Executive Director, Jim Paul, was interviewed several times this month on the WikiLeaks issue, including by French newspaper Le Monde - "WiliLeaks: colere feutree a l'ONU apres les accusations d'espionnage," Dec 8, 2010.

Interviews on other subjects were given to ARD German Radio and Der Standard (Vienna).

Meetings with UK Ambassador Mark Lyall Grant and with Robert Orr, UN Assistant Secretary General for Policy and Planning.

Spotlight



GPF has a new staff member - Lou Pingeot of Paris. A graduate of Sciences Po, she has broad responsibilities as Program Coordinator.

In December two new Associates joined GPF: Lydia Boyer (USA), and Melissa Martin (Australia)

Other News



GPF is preparing a spring conference in Brussels on Security Council reform, with a focus on the possibility of a European seat.
