(1) Local Purchases: account for the food aid procured in a country and used as food aid in the same country.

(2) Triangular Purchases: are the food aid purchases or exchanges in one country for use as food aid in another developing country.

(3) Direct Transfers include all food aid originating from a donor country.

Occasionally, there may be local purchases in and triangular transactions from countries that are not developing countries.

*Global Food Aid Deliveries include all food aid delivered by multilateral, bilateral and NGO channels.

The figures refer to the quantities of food aid actually delivered to recipient countries during the year under review. These quantities may have been decided upon, ordered, shipped, or purchased during the previous year. Cereal quantities are expressed in grain equivalents, other commodities in actual quantities.
