Greetings from Global Policy Forum!
This week, the General Assembly began debating Security Council reform. Japan is interested in taking the lead in the push for reform.
UN finance tables have been updated. As of September 30, 2000 the US owed the largest amount to the UN it has ever owed in history - $1.890 billion. As of October 31 (most recent data), after some US payments, the situation is as follows: The US owes a total of $1.586 billion to the Regular, PKO and tribunals budgets - 59% of the total outstanding for all members. The US owes $431 million to the Regular budget, 82% of the total - that is, four times more than all other member states combined.
