Across the globe, “Occupy” movements and citizen protests are challenging the status quo and questioning how our world is organized. It is a moment Global Policy Forum has long been working towards. Now we are stepping up our efforts and taking advantage of this unique time – to demand democracy and justice at the United Nations and throughout our global institutions.
In 2011, with a small staff and a modest budget, GPF held nations to account through our information and analysis of little-known global agreements and secretive diplomacy. We published original papers, held an international conference and organized many extraordinary events. We gave dozens of media interviews, strengthened our much-visited website and worked for justice with many international NGO partners. Sixteen remarkable interns came from Argentina, Sweden, Senegal, and seven other countries - bringing energy and talent to our work.
In 2012, with your contribution, we will:
- Publish a major report on Private Military and Security Companies … how they are gaining UN contracts and deepening violence in conflict zones;
- Continue our pioneering work on agriculture and hunger … showing why the UN’s Rio+20 Conference must radically change food production methods to solve climate change;
- Campaign against illegal foreign fishing fleets that are taking food from drought-hungry Somalis while an international naval flotilla stands idly by;
- Organize a conference to re-think the continuing crisis in Haiti and analyze why foreign “assistance” is making matters worse;
- And do our utmost to promote real democracy and accountability in global policy making … at the UN and beyond.
Your contribution makes our work possible. Please make a new year online donation to GPF now. Every dollar will go a long way!
You can also send a dollar check drawn on a US bank to GPF at 777 UN Plaza, suite 3D, New York, NY 10017. Either way, your donation will be US tax deductible.
With thanks,
