The United States Senate has approved an amendment suspending for five years the sanctions that the Bill Clinton administration had imposed on India and Pakistan in protest against their nuclear tests last year. The amendment, approved on June 8, however, does not repeal the US ban on military, missile and nuclear technology sales. It gives the president better tools to deal with any military build-up in the two countries.
It will allow sales of agriculture products as well as other products, including aircraft.
