This table shows US citizens' direct payments to the UN General Fund. These payments are in protest against the US government's large debts to the UN. Many of the payments were organized by the Campaign of CFUN (Citizens to Fund the UN) and by the Whitehead Initiative. The contributions roughly doubled every month from November to May, but slacked off in June and July as the impetus of the original campaign slowed. However, overall citizen activity -- including letters, resolutions, meetings and the like -- continued to increase, as more and more people became aware of the issue. The vigils in October and diverse efforts of citizens groups in the fall were testimony to a continuously rising level of political concern.

Note that a small number of checks and individuals counted in the above table are from outside the United States; UN data does not indicate which month these contributions were received.
