Job Description/Responsibilities
*Program Coordinator of Social and Economic Policy
Oversee GPF’s work in social and economic policy and related fields, closely coordinating with GPF’s Executive Director. Manage and develop GPF’s website. Closely supervise the interns working in this area. Organize policy events. Draft papers and texts on GPF’s social and economic policy program priorities. Maintain and update tables and charts. *Development Officer
Draft fundraising proposals and grant reports for foundations. Draft appeal letters and a quarterly “membership newsletter” for donors. Manage and update GPF’s donor database. Manage contact with GPF’s smaller and medium-sized donors. Organize fundraising events. Research prospective new donors. Internship Responsibilities
Assist internship coordinator with recruitment and selection of interns. Training of new interns. Daily supervision of the work of the interns, including editing and help with research etc. Other Responsibilities
Oversee GPF’s general website development. Maintain contact with Board members and set up regular Board meetings and phone conference calls. Organize internal planning and priority-setting meetings. Do occasional presentations to university students, NGOs and other groups, and media interviews. Skill Requirements
Political like-mindedness with GPF Hard-working Genuine interest in learning and acquiring new skills and knowledge Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously Ability to work in a team as well as independently Well-developed understanding of international issues Strong writing, editing and research skills Organizing skills HTML literacy (strongly preferred) University degree (B.A. or M.A.) in political science, law, international relations, social science or related humanities field Language: English fluency (required), working knowledge of another UN language (preferred)

Please submit a brief essay (no more than 2-3 pages/1000 words) on one of the following topics/questions. Obviously these are broad questions and your answer can only address a few keypoints or even one illustrative example.
1) Critically analyze the role played by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in poor countries. What do you think about the critique of these institutions? And what is your personal opinion about the work they do?2) What are some of the challenges of relying on trade liberalization to promote development in poor countries? Use examples of the WTO and/or bilateral and regional free trade agreements to illustrate your thinking. Please include your personal opinion about these matters.
3) In your opinion, what are some of the major development obstacles facing poor countries today? What responsibility do rich countries have? And what actions should they be taking?
4) Critically analyze the role played by Transnational Corporations (TNCs) in the global economic system. In your personal opinion, how does their increasing influence affect democracy and development, and how should the international community respond?
5) Critically analyze the ideology of neoliberalism and its influence over policy making. In your personal opinion, how have neoliberal policies affected democracy and development in poor countries?
6) What are some of the major challenges of international aid? What can donor countries do to ensure that aid reduces poverty and promotes development in poor countries? Include your personal thinking around this issue.
