The General Assembly elected the five coveted two-year seats on the Security Council. Congo, Qatar, Slovakia and Ghana won easy election, and Peru defeated Nicaragua in the only contested race. The new members join Argentina, Denmark, Greece, Japan and Tanzania, who were elected last year and will remain on the Council until the end of 2006.
