Net Official Development Assistance (ODA) 1956-2005

In US Dollars and as a Percentage of Donor Countries' Gross National Incomes

Source: OECD

(Created by Pekka Hirvonen, April 2005)

Table Notes:

1. Figures are shown in current prices and exchange rates.

2. ODA figures include debt-forgiveness, also of non-ODA claims such as export credits (according to OECD rules, rich governments' commercial loans such as export credits, count as part of a country's aid effort when they are written off, even though a borrower country may not be servicing that debt).

3. The sharp rise of ODA figures in 2005 reflects a fivefold increase in debt relief, rather than increases in development aid. Only a few countries benefit from the OECD countries' debt relief (most notably Iraq with US$ 15bn and Nigeria with US$ 5bn).
