Estimated Value of Global Food Aid Deliveries*

1997 - 2004

Source: World Food Programme's International Food Aid Information System (INTERFAIS)

* Global Food Aid Deliveries include all food aid delivered by multilateral, bilateral and NGO channels.

In order to avoid double counting, food aid channeled through NGOs does not include the quantities that are distributed by the NGOs and are channeled multilaterally. (NGOs are involved in about two thirds of all food aid deliveries.)

The quantity figures refer to the quantities of food aid actually delivered to recipient countries during the year under review. These quantities may have been decided upon, ordered, shipped, or purchased during the previous year. Cereal quantities are expressed in grain equivalents, other commodities in actual quantities.

The estimated value of global food aid deliveries is based on the estimation of the value of commodities on the one hand, and the estimation of the shipping costs based on regional matrices on the other hand.
