October 23, 1998

1998 UN Vigil

The 3rd UN Vigil in New York City

Demanding a Stronger, More Effective and More Democratic UN

On October 23, 1998, the eve of United Nations Day, concerned citizens in 18 countries worldwide joined in a Third Worldwide Vigil as a protest against member states, in particullar the United States, who have not paid their full dues assessments to the UN. People gathered in public places, the US and other Embassys abroad. These vigils called on the United States - and all others - to pay up and made a forceful statement in support of the United Nations and our vision for its stronger and more democratic future.
