Originally a collective including Slovenian musicians Laibach, the Neue Slowenische Kunst organization declared itself to be an independent state in 1991. Hutt River Province is an independent sovereign state located in West Australia, and governed by Prince Leonard Casley, former farmer, who seceded from Australia in 1970.
Sealand, founded as a sovereign principality in 1967 in international waters, lies six miles off the eastern shores of Britain. Sealand's founding principle is that people dissatisfied with the oppressive laws and restrictions of existing states may declare independence in any place not claimed to be under the jurisdiction of another sovereign entity.
