The 10 Crises with the Largest Share of Shortfalls (%)

(As at October 14, 2005)

Source: World Food Programme

These data show funding shortfalls of the WFP's relief projects with the largest percentage of shortfalls. The data include only the hunger crises for which the WFP appealed for funding. The crises include both the WFP's Protracted Relief and Recovery Operations (PRROs) and Emergency Operations. They only include the WFP's ongoing operations, not those already completed. WFP Emergency Operations and PRROs begin throughout the year and usually last between 3 months and 2 years. The data below show how much relief is needed only in 2005.

Two emergency operations in Pakistan and one emergency operation in Guatemala are not included among the 10 largest percentage shortfalls since the projects were not set to start until October 2005. As of October 14, 2005 the shortfalls for WFP's operations in Pakistan were 94% and 100% and in Guatemala 100%.

The figures in US$ represent the value of food quantities.
