Funding Shortfalls of Hunger Crises: By Region

Print

2002 - 2008

Source: World Food Programme

These data compare funding shortfalls of the WFP's relief projects in different regions over several years. The data include only the hunger crises for which the WFP appealed for funding. The crises include both the WFP's Protracted Relief and Recovery Operations (PRROs) and Emergency Operations. WFP Emergency Operations and PRROs begin throughout the year and usually last between 3 months and 2 years.

The figures in US$ represent the value of food quantities.

*For 2002 and 2003 GPF has calculated the shortfall for the "Middle East, Central Asia and Eastern Europe" by adding the shortfalls for the "Middle East, Central Asia and the Mediterranean" category with the "Eastern Europe" category.

**Shortfalls indicate the portion of the Resources to Raise in the year in question which remains unfunded.

In 2002-2005, WFP projects in Afghanistan and Pakistan were counted in the "Middle East, Central Asia" region. From 2006, WFP programs in Afghanistan and Pakistan were counted into the "Asia" region.
