Sustainable Development & Human Rights

The human rights framework and the principles and goals of sustainable development are of paramount importance for international cooperation and national policies. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, unanimously adopted by the United Nations in September 2015, outlines bold and transformative steps needed to address the challenges of inequalities and sustainability. It is a universal agenda that requires an integrated response across all policy streams.

Successful achievement of the Agenda’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals depends on robust accountability, deep resourcing and institutional reform. The goals span across interconnected challenges: growing inequalities, climate crisis, women’s rights and gender equality, the deepening digital divide, unjust trade and investment agreements, and rising militarism.

In this section, we post information, analyses, documents, and background material related to the 2030 Agenda and its implementation, as well as to the universal human rights framework. This includes the activities and analysis of our Global Policy Watch project, as well as the annual report Spotlight on Sustainable Development.
