Wirtschaftsverbände haben eine Befragung zu menschenrechtlicher Verantwortung bei ihren Auslandsgeschäften mit Unterstützung des Bundeswirtschaftsministeriums und des Kanzleramts im Vorfeld stark verwässert. Das belegt eine heute veröffentlichte Studie der Initiative Lieferkettengesetz. Sie zeigt beispielsweise, dass auf Druck von Bundesminister Altmaier unvollständig ausgefüllte Fragebögen aus der Bewertung herausgenommen wurden, obwohl diese Unternehmen die Anforderungen nicht erfüllen. Die COVID-19-Pandemie und die politischen Maßnahmen, mit denen die Regierungen auf sie reagierten, haben gravierende Folgen für die globale Nachhaltigkeitsagenda. Auch wenn sich das ganze Ausmaß der Krise und ihrer Auswirkungen derzeit noch nicht abschätzen lässt, droht schon jetzt die Gefahr, dass die Pandemie die Verwirklichung der international vereinbarten Ziele für nachhaltige Entwicklung (SDGs) in ihrer Gesamtheit gefährdet.

Deutschland übernimmt ab dem 1. Juli 2020 für sechs Monate die Präsidentschaft im Rat der Europäischen Union (EU). Dies geschieht zu einer Zeit, in der die EU durch die Corona-Pandemie vor die größte Herausforderung in ihrer Geschichte gestellt ist. Neben der Bewältigung der unmittelbaren Krise und des damit einhergehenden Wirtschaftseinbruchs muss dem Klimawandel und seinen Folgen weiter Rechnung getragen werden.

Across the UN development system, Member States, the UN Secretariat and UN leadership are exploring the profound socio-economic impacts of COVID-19 and what macroeconomic policy changes are needed to “build back better”.
